GRAZING COWS

Although this field is green, it will support these grazing cattle only for a few years. After several crops of grass the soil is depleted and high in toxic compounds that prevent growth of suitable species. Only a few species of tough indigestible grasses will grow here thereafter. This picture was taken near Pijuayal in Peru, on the main stream of the Amazon River.
