LANGENES 1609 MAP

This miniature map (measuring 8.3 x 12.2 cm) was made by Dutch cartographer B. Langenes in Amsterdam in 1609. It shows South America as derived from Diego Gutiérrez's model of 1562. The Amazon is depicted fairly accurately, but the River Marañón is exaggerated in size, and shown entering the main stream too far east.
