Zomba Mountain is an undiscovered ecological treasure in the heart of Malawi. Rising some 3,000 feet from the surrounding plain, the plateau harbors an unusual variety of plants and animals. The cool climate and high rainfall offers a different habitat to the drier savanna habitat below. This photo shows the spectacular view from a small lodge perched on the edge of the mountain. At the foot of the mountain is the town of Zomba, the one-time capital of colonial Malawi, then called Nyasaland. |
