Looking upon this tranquil scene it is hard to believe that twice a year, this river is crowded with thousands of migrating wildebeest, each braving the strong current and lurking crocodiles. Among the most memorable scenes of Africa is played out here, as the million strong herd must cross the river on their way to seasonal grazing lands. Besides crocodiles, permanent inhabitants of this river include hippos, and along the banks a variety of bird life including weaver birds. |
