Most books on the Galapagos include some kind of map. The book Galapagos: A Natural History Guide has a map on the inside front cover. Notice that the scale is in kilometers rather than miles (learn more about scale). Scientists prefer to use the metric system because it is easier to calculate with it. The inset (top right) shows the islands' location relative to mainland South America, and tick marks along the edge indicate the latitude and longitude (learn more about latitude and longitude).
