ECUADOR PEOPLE

Ecuador's 13 million or so people are a rich mixture of races, originating mostly from the Indian tribes who ancestrally inhabited the area and later settlers, primarily Spanish. The country is among the most densely populated countries in South America; a situation which poses significant challenges for the government. Poverty reduction and biodiversity conservation are among the priorities for policy-makers.
