The stilt palm (Socratea exorrhiza) is widely used for construction. The bark is cut into strips that can be used for flooring, walls or in roofs. It is common in the rainforest, and its long roots are covered with robust spines that inhibit animals from climbing up. However, the area inside the cone of stilt roots is said to be a favored refuge of rodents such as agoutis. |
