BARK PAINTINGS

The bark of a fig tree (Ficus yoponenis) provides a canvas for simple paintings. For subject matter artists draw from the world around them ­ animals are the favorite topics: parrots, toucans, snakes and jaguar. The bark cloth material is also used for small hammocks, bags and clothing (see bark cloth and traditional dancers.)
