A child growing up in the Amazon experiences a very different life to a child growing up in Western society. A boy or girl learns to paddle a dug-out canoe rather than ride a bicycle. Everyone swims and soccer is played everywhere but American football and baseball are nonexistent. A child might have a parrot or a boa for a pet whereas a dog is used by grown-ups to hunt game in the forest. Rice and fish are staples at the meal table, and most children know nothing of food such as breakfast cereal, burgers, french fries, potato chips and ice cream. However, children the world over share many thingscuriosity and a need to learn and play, and a need for love. |
