The forests and rivers of the Amazon harbor more species of reptiles than anywhere else on earth. Most are small and secretive, usually well-hidden or staying high in the canopy. But there are some spectacular reptiles: the anaconda is perhaps the world's most famous snake and synonymous with the Amazon. The main reptile groups are snakes, lizards, tortoises and in the water, caimans and turtles. |
