In South America this fish (Rhaphiodon vulpinus) is called either Chafalote or Machete. Jacques Cousteau calls it Dogfish, giving it the name because of the long front teeth in the lower jaw (look closely at the picture). Indeed, the Dogfish is a voracious, fast-swimming predator of other fishes. The long teeth are used to stab the prey, but it poses no threat to people.
