At Mvuu Camp, in the heart of Liwonde National Park, visitors can stay in tented accommodations. These offer the rustic atmosphere of camping
with the convenience of a hotel room. The canvas tent sits on a permanent concrete base, and is protected from the worst of the rain by a reed
thatch roof. This is easier to clean and helps keep animals away. Beds are comfortable, and at night hippos come up from the river to graze
surrounding lawns. Note the little crook to the left. This is used to hold your paraffin hurricane lamp (supplied by the lodge) as there is no
electric power to the cabins. The Shire River is to right of the picture. At night, hippos roam the surrounding lawns keeping the lush grass
short. (Liwonde hippo photo)
