Lake Malawi's water is so clear that divers can see 40 or 50 feet. The absence of plankton also renders the lake's water very blue (due to its absorption of light of other wavelengths). When the sun is overhead, this color is so intense it seems almost black. This picture was taken from the stern of the lake steamer MV Ilala 2, the best way for a traveler to experience the lake. |
